Energetic Mindfulness

Energetic mindfulness, or practicing awareness of the impacts on our energy and where we place it, is an important step to maintaining our spiritual health and energetic sovereignty, especially for those who are more open empathically or sensitive to the energy/people around them. By being mindful about what has positive and negative effects on your energy, you can consciously engage in spaces or activities that support you energetically and avoid the ones that don’t. What we energetically engage in can affect what we attract in and push away and can be very effective in either supporting or blocking our intentions as well as affect the kind of people, energies, and other outcomes we manifest, both positively or negatively. When we become more intentional about where we place our energy, we are able to shift that to work in our favor, but first you’ll need to gain a sense of where your placing your energy and how that’s affecting your spiritual health.

A way to discern between what is helpful vs what is harmful for your energetic wellbeing is how you feel before, during, and after engaging in certain habits, being in certain spaces, and/or around certain people, especially on a consistent basis. Everyone is entitle to having a hard day or going through a difficult period of life, but if often find yourself feeling energetically drained, anxious, or heavy you’re around them, it may be in your best interest to create distant or space, even temporarily, for your own good which could be true for certain environments as well. Another side effect to these different energetic influences, especially for those open empathically or energetically sensitive, are the habits, thought processes, and emotional distress we may pick up from the energy around us which can be very draining energetically and often confused as our own if we aren’t able to discern between our energy and the energy around us. Our heart and bodies reaction, like our nervous system, are an indicator for what’s in our best interest, even if it takes our minds time to recognize why we feel the way we do, so developing a deeper connection and sense of trust with those indicators can be very helpful as well. This doesn’t mean anything found harmful to you is negative overall, but can just be unaligned with you either in general or with where you're at mentally, physically, or spirituality due to the different beliefs, habits, cycles, and practices you’re engaging in at the time. For example, you could feel drained after engaging with someone or in certain groups/environments, but that could be because you aren’t setting boundaries and are actively participating in habits like people pleasing, quieting yourself, or masking which will never sit well with you especially after setting intentions to align with your truth an authenticity.

Energetic mindfulness also includes being aware of what you spend your energy thinking about and harboring emotionally. What we spend our mental and emotional energy on creates energetic ties which can either be fulfilling or depleting depending on what it is. When you are spending your mental or emotional energy on past, present, or future situations, you are essentially connecting with the energy of whatever it is you’re thinking about, which can be very depleting and ungrounding and can also keep us energetically attached to habits, people, and situations that are no longer aligned with us. This can also be true with people’s personal energy, especially if it’s unprotected. If you spend your energy focusing on someone or their actions, you could begin to connect or tap into their energy, which can be just as intrusive and harmful to their energy as it is yours. Harmful habits and cycles like this are ultimately a waste of energy and can be detrimental to your overall wellbeing, energetically and otherwise. It will always be in your best interest to focus your energy on yourself by engaging in the habits that encourage growth, peace, and empowerment, and working toward the goals or manifestations that serve your highest good. This will ultimately be the most impactful way to support your spiritual alignment and overall energetic wellbeing as well as support your intentions and manifestations. This is what makes healing so impactful for our spiritual health because it allows us to take stock of what we are mentally or emotionally harboring like fears, insecurities, judgements, and much more that can be released to make space for the thoughts, habits, and feelings that serve our highest good. As you figure out what positively and negatively impacts your energy, here is how some activities can affect our overall spiritual health:

POSTIVE IMPACTS

  • Keeping your home/spaces organized and tidy

  • Cultivating a self care routine around your needs and preferences

  • Investing in your interests

  • Reading books or listening to speakers/podcasts that support your healing, growth, or happiness

  • Creative outlets

  • Tending to your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health

NEGATIVE IMPACTS

  • Engaging in gossip or judgement

  • Consuming content that speaks to the aspects you are trying to evolve or overcome (lack mindset, victim mindset, ego)

  • Holding a grudge against others

  • Carrying resentment toward yourself (shame, embarrassment, self critism)

  • Replaying old arguments or situations from the past in your mind

  • Engaging in self harm or unhealthy coping mechanisms (distractions, addictions, negative self talk, not prioritizing health)

Where we place our energy and what we spend our energy is our most impactful exchange in life, so it’s important to spend it wisely and ensure that what you are receiving in return serves our highest good. This is what make energetic mindfulness one of the most important practices to maintain our spiritual health and hygiene with it being a form of protection, cleansing, and grounding as well as an incredible tool for your healing and self discovery.
