Celebrating the Spring Equinox

The spring equinox, also known as Ostara, marks the end of winter and the beginning of the astrological new year. After the many months of isolating and turning inward during the cold months of winter, this equinox comes in to breathe life into the air and the life around it. With it always falling within a few days of the start of Aries season, this is a time of renewal, balance, and revitalization and is perfect for clearing out old, stagnant energy to make space for fresh energy to take its place. Use this time to bring new ideas to fruition, set intentions for the year ahead, or bring life back to old projects. Here are some of the ways I celebrate the spring equinox:

  1. REFRESH YOUR SPACE

Cleansing and refreshing the energy of your space is a great way to promote that energy of renewal and balance. Some of my favorite ways to do this is by smoke cleansing, taking a spiritual bath/shower, and making a cleansing candle, but you can do this in whatever way you prefer to cleanse like sound cleansing or a floor wash. Take this time to refresh any altar spaces, offerings, spiritual tools, and any protections you have in place as well to ensure no stagnant energy is left behind!

  1. CONNECT WITH NATURE

Springtime is a great time for reconnecting with nature, especially if you live somewhere that’s kept you from going outside through the Winter. You can do this by sitting outside, grounding, going on a walk or even bring nature inside by doing a simmer pot or bring some fresh flowers in your space. Connect with plants like tulips, stinging nettle, honeysuckle, and other spring flowers or other materials that are associated with fertility, healing, new beginnings, and abundance.

  2. JOURNAL

This is a great time to release anything that’s no longer serving your highest good and journaling can definitely help process anything that still may be lingering in your mind or heart. Reflect where this last year has brought you and what it’s brought you through. What did you do well and what still has room for improvement? What came of your hardships? Your manifestations? What are you grateful for and what did you learn from? This can bring clarity on what you’d like to focus on working on moving forward. Here’s mine for an example.

  3. MANIFEST

Take some time to set your intentions for your year ahead with whatever method makes sense for you. This could as simple as lighting a candle, writing it down, or setting intentions with a simmer pot. You can even just take a moment to connect with your heart space and setting those intentions, internally or externally, with yourself and the universe. Regardless of how complex or simple you choose to be here, know that the energy around you is supporting you and your goals/desires.

  4. REST + FOCUS ON SELF CARE

Take some time to revitalize your own energy by resting and tending to your personal needs. Everyone’s self care needs are different and will be unique to what makes you feel cared for and fulfilled. For me, being the libra moon that I am, I focus on tending the practices that make me and my space feel beautiful and organized. This includes journaling, tidying my space, using incense, and tending to things like my hair, skin, or nails. I suggest to looking toward your moon, Venus, and Mercury sign to learn how to support your mental wellbeing by even just including the elements their associated with in your practices.

However you choose to spend this time, I hope this year surrounds you with love, peace, joy, and blessings of all shapes and sizes and to do my part in making that happen, here’s my advice for the year ahead: Don’t become so focused on trying to better yourself and your life that you don’t stop to appreciate what’s around you. There will always be time to evolve, whether that be in this lifetime or the next, but you only get one today as who you are now. Enjoy it!
